Specialities

Internal medicine

Internal Medicine is a speciality in its own right. It involves borderline pathologies and those overlapping between specialities. It is competent in complex patient files, rare diseases, general symptoms such as assessment of prolonged fever or unexplained loss of weight.

The specialist in internal medicine works on analysis and synthesis at the request of other colleagues (consulting physicians).
The exercise of the speciality is performed:
- In consultation after referral from colleagues, most often general practitioners.
The patient is seen in consultation, with his/her file and a letter from the referring physician requesting an opinion. A letter is sent to the referring physician with suggestions as to how to resolve the problem.
- By hospitalisation in a department of medicine.
Pathologies encountered most often are infectious, vascular, blood, cardiovascular and lung diseases. The specialists in internal medicine coordinate the advice of specialists in the various organs and organise care and treatment.
- In hospitalisation units for medical and surgical specialities to give an opinion at the request of specialist colleagues.
