This is a medical speciality dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the respiratory tract:

Diseases of the lungs and bronchi such as asthma, respiratory allergies, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, respiratory failure, pneumonia, pneumopathy, tuberculosis, pulmonary fibrosis and also cancer (trachea, bronchi, lung, pleura) and pleurisy, not forgetting sleep apnoea.

Respiratory medicine is an important speciality on the borderline of numerous other specialities (internal medicine, intensive care, cardiology, ENT, rheumatology, gastroenterology, etc.).

Apart from imaging techniques (X-rays and scanners) more specifically the examinations include functional respiratory explorations (FRE), fibroscopy, stress tests, arterial blood gases and polygraphic sleep recordings.
